Firmware updates

In this section, you will find all of the information necessary to update the software on your product.

Currently, firmware updates are available for the following models:

NB501SL9 (E5H40UD) Version 1.109

NB500SL9 (E5H40UD) Version 1.109

NB500MG9 (E5E20UD) Version 1.109 *

NB500MG9 (E5H20UD) Version 1.109 *

NB500MS9 (E5H20UD) Version 1.109

NB530SLX (E5K40UD) Version 1.010

NB531SLX (E5K41UD) Version 1.010

NB530MGX (E5K20UD) Version 1.010

NB531MGX (E5K21UD) Version 1.010

NB500MGXA (E5K22UD) Version 1.010

NB530MGXB (E5K23UD) Version 1.010

In order to create a firmware update disc, you must meet the following requirements.

* NB500MG9 has two different firmware types. Follow Method 2 of Step 1 to determine which file to use.

Update procedure overview:

Perform the steps listed below to update your Blu-ray Disc Player:

Step 1.) Check The firmware version currently installed on your Blu-ray Disc Player.

Step 2.) Download the latest firmware

Step 3.) Unzip the contents to a temporary folder.

Step 4.) Burn the contents to disc.

Step 5.) Install the firmware update.

Step 1 - Check the firmware version currently installed

Method 1:

Turn on the power to your device.

Press the [Setup] button on your remote to open the setup menu.

Look in the top right corner for the firmware version.

If no firmware version is found, the firmware version is old and the device needs to be updated.

Method 2:

Turn the power on to the device.

Be sure there is no disc in the tray.

Press the buttons on the remote control in the following order.

[1] , [2] , [3] , [4] followed by the [DISPLAY] buttons.

You should receive the following screen.

 

The "Model Name" section displays the chasis number of your product. This is how you can locate the correct firmware update for your product.

If E5E20UD is shown, use "NB500MG9 (E5E20UD) Version 1.109"

If E5H20UD is shown, use "NB500MG9 (E5H20UD) Version 1.109"

The "Version" section displays the current version of your Firmware.

Press the [POWER] button to exit.

DO NOT PRESS THE STOP BUTTON. Doing so will destroy the device.

 

Step 2 Download The latest firmware

Please review and accept the following license agreement to proceed to the download Page.

I. You are granted the right to download, install and use a copy of the firmware provided through the use of software on the product.

II. You may not modify, reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble the software.

III. You may not use the software for any purpose other than software updating.

VI. This software is provided "AS-IS" without warranty of any kind. In no event shall FUNAI be liable for any special, incidental, indirect or consequential damages and losses arising out of the use of this software.

V. You agree that the software may not be shipped, transferred or exported into any country or used in any manner prohibited by United States Export Administration Act or any other applicable export laws or regulations.

Step 3 Unzip contents to a temporary folder

Once you have downloaded the correct firmware for your device, open the file and copy the contents of that file to a temporary folder.

Note: This procedure will vary depending on the operating system and software you are using on your computer. If you use different software to extract ZIP Archive files, please refer to the software manufacturer's instructions.

The procedure should be similar to those outlined below.

Windows XP:

Open the file.

Click on File > Extract All Files >

Follow the Prompts from 'Extraction Wizard'

Click on "NEXT"

Extract To

Choose a location to extract the files to (or leave as default) and click "NEXT"

Completed

Click on "FINISHED"

The files should be extracted to the location shown. You will then need to burn these Files to a CD or DVD

Step 4 Burn the contents to disc

Note: This procedure will vary depending on the operating system and software you are using on your computer. If you use different software to create CD or DVD discs, please refer to the to that software manufacturer's instructions.

The procedure should be similar to the following:

Insert a blank DVD-RW / DVD-R / DVD+RW / DVD+R / CD-R / CD-RW disc into your computer's drive.

Please keep in mind, only the disc types above can be used for firmware updates. You cannot use recordable Blu-ray Discs.

Find the BIN File you extracted to the location outlined in Step 4. Right click on the Item, Select "SEND TO" and Select your CD or DVD Drive.

Open My Computer, right click on your DVD or CD ROM drive and select "WRITE THESE FILES TO CD"

Follow the prompts provided by the CD Writing Wizard.

Step 5 Install the firmware update

Once you have created a firmware update disc, follow the procedure below to update the firmware on your device. Please keep in mind, during the Firmware update all of the device settings are reset to the default settings.

I. Turn off the [Power] to your device

II. Press the [OPEN/CLOSE] button on your device.

III. Place the firmware update disc you created in Step 5 into the tray of your device.

VI. Press the [OPEN/CLOSE] button to close the tray.

V. The device will display "SOFTWARE UPGRADE" on your television screen, and "UPDATE" on the LED display directly on the unit.

Note: If there is a problem, you will see the message "ERROR, Please check your disc and try again" If this occurs, be sure you are NOT using a Writable or ReWritable Blu-ray Disc and make a new disc using a DVD-RW / DVD-R / DVD+RW / DVD+R / CD-R / CD-RW

VI. Press the right arrow key on your remote control to highlight "YES"

VII. Press [OK] on your remote control.

VIII. The television screen will read "Loading Software" and the LED display directly on the unit will say "CHECKSW"

IX. After a brief delay, the television screen will read "New Upgrade data verified. Please remove the disc and close tray to continue". Press the [OPEN/CLOSE] button to open the tray, remove the disc and press the [OPEN/CLOSE] button again to close the tray.

X. Once the tray has closed, the device will begin copying the update data to storage. The television screen will read "Upgrading in progress" and the LED Display directly on the unit will read the percentage completed. DO NOT TURN OFF POWER TO THE UNIT at this time.

XI. After a brief delay, the LED Display directly on the unit will read "FINISH" indicating the firmware update completed successfully. At this point, unplug the AC cord from the outlet. Wait 30 Seconds before plugging back in.

XII. You can vefiy the update has occured by turning on the power to the device, and clicking the setup button on your remote control. The version number will be shown in the top right corner.
